Goodbye to Woozle

It is with great personal sadness and grief that I and Mark mourn the passing of our dear 'Woozle', who at 35 yrs young, was still full of good nature and sweet disposition, tinged with a good sense of horse humour. She maintained a happy aspect to the last, her back legs just weakened, making it difficult for her to move about safely, fearing that she would have a fall and damage herself badly, she was sent to sleep this evening after her favourite teatime feed, carrots, hand feeding of grass and much grooming and petting.
I stayed with her throughout smoothing her neck and talking to her.

7/8 Thoroughbred cross Irish Hunter, Bay Mare, she and I used to compete in Eventing together, She was very brave and bold, and beautifully mannered in and out of the Stable, and a firm favouite with the small children at the playschool next to one of her turnout fields.
Her name 'Wednesday's Choice',came about because she was bought at the Hereford Bloodstock Sales on the Wednesday Sale Day.
Her Stable name is 'Woozle' from the Winnie the Pooh Story about hunting the woozle.

So sorry to hear your news ... but what a wonderful age she lived to. My mare is just 25 years young and I can only hope that her 'passing' is as peaceful and dignified as Woozle's.

I'm sure you have many happy memories to help ease the pain.

35 is a very impressive age for a big horse - a testament to your care and devotion to her.

Dear Linda, I'm so sorry to hear about your dear horse. It sounds like she was very special to you.

Thanks so much for dropping by my sewing blog. I've been neglecting it this summer as there has been so much non-sewing to do, but really was blessed by your comment.

oh....I'm so sorry for your loss....

and I agree with you...bare back sure does help with the balance! especially since Jordan is 1/2 percheron and 1/2 thoroughbred - at 16 hands....she is quite intimidating!

Oh, Linda!! I am so very, very sorry for your loss!! Woozle was such a grand lady -- and I know how much you and Mark loved her.

Even at 35, which is a tremendous amount of time for a horse to live, I know that you are NEVER really ready to let them go.

You both are in my thoughts and prayers!!

Much love and BIG (((HUGS)))

When the sorrow subsides a bit, the beautiful memories will take its place. They may gone from earthly sight, but they are always held tightly in our hearts.

As you can tell, Linda, I'm really behind on my blog reading. However, I can't let this post go by without saying how sorry I am for your loss. I know how hard it is, and that words are never good enough. It sounds like Woozle had the very best of homes, though, to have lived to such a grand old age. She was beautiful, and must have been a powerful riding horse in her day...
