Poppy

Poppy after fighting a number of illnesses over the last few months was helped to peacefully pass on to new adventures over the Rainbow bridge.
She was a very Special little girl. When not much more than a year old after I returned from hospital after a 10hour surgery operation for a brain tumor, she took upon herself to be my nursemaid. Every morning (although previously never entering the bedrooms), she bustled her way in and around to my side of the bed. Her nose would then ferret out my hand or face until I spoke to her, she would then lay down, and refuse to move till I managed to sit or get up. Poppy would then follow me religiously around the house this went on for the next year, till I was feeling a little better. Poppy's methods of communication were excellent, ranging from asking with her paw, waving and gripping!. Clearing her throat in a hmm hmm sound, licking her lips for a drink, the follow me lassie manoveour, and even going to collect a doggy tiolet bag herself and standing in front of me with it in her mouth so I got the subtle hint.
She spent her last hours in her favourite spot, the garden, on her bed, under the sunshade covered with a blanket, watching the world go by, comforted by both her human parents, till she finally relaxed peacefully away.
She has left deep pawprints in our hearts.

Thankyou for the wonderful caring comments and well wishes left on both blogs, emails, and group communications,. M and I really appreciate the sentiments and love that went into them all. Lindax

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that Poppy has passed to doggy heaven. They really do leave a big hole, but the wonderful memories they leave never fade.
Will call back soon.
Warm Wishes

Oh Linda...I am so sorry for the loss of Poppy...I want you to know..Just because none of us physically met Poppy...She touched our hearts through you speaking for her. I am sad and will mourn with you. I am glad she had her parents with her as her comfort in her last hours. She knew she was loved...and the memories will always be there with you..Maybe you could write the memories on Poppys page ...so all could understand the bond you had with her..Funny how our pets are our family...and the pain is as strong as a loosing a human loved one.

I am here if you want to talk, chat or just reminesce(spelled wrong).

My heart aches for you!

Erica's Song

Go Joyously into the spirit and the summerland of youth,
Glory once again in your strength. Run free amid the wildflowers.
Sniff the tantalizing smells among the wooded tangles of the forest.
Sleep in the warm sun beside murmuring brooks. And when you weary of the green hills and fields of Rainbow Bridge, follow the bright strand- forged of love which connects us.
It leads to the garden of my soul where a warm welcome always awaits your coming..

Oh Linda, I'm in tears here reading about your dear Poppy...What a beautful, sweet girl. Your story of Poppy helping after your surgery reminds me of a book I read a few years ago called "Animals as Teachers and Healers" - and we've had the same experience here when my husband has been ill. Dogs are such amazing creatures, so attuned to us...and their passing is always so painful.

Sending hugs and healing blessings....

Linda, I am very sorry for the loss of your Poppy. She sounds very special and very dear to your heart. For many of us our pets are family and when they pass on we grieve them as though they were. Having lost two family members (pets) in the last few years myself, I can honestly say I know how you feel.
Sending you healing prayers.

I must say I didn't even want to read this post. Because it not only breaks my heart for your loss, but makes me feel pangs of sorrow for my girls and when the time comes to let them go, and I just can't bear the thought of it even.
It will do you no good to know I cry over Poppy's loss, because your heart will must have time to begin to feel any joy for memeories of her. Years have passed since the loss of some of my pets and I still don't speak of them, because it brings me to tears everytime I try.
There is nothing I can do to help, but wish the passing of time for your sorrow.
"The best place to bury a good dog is in her owners heart."
One more thing, don't you feel blessed to be the one who got to enjoy life with her.

Someone told me today, Indian culture believes that a dog spirit soul runs free and plays in their spirit world by day, and returns to curl up and sleep by their loved ones beds at night.Lindaxx

I found my way here through Sonia's blog. As a pet nurse for the past 36 years, I still cry at every beloved pet we have to let go of. Poppy was an angel sent to you and you were the angel she needed when it was time to let her go.
You can read about some of my special patients on my Gratitude Photo link if you happen to stip by.
I'm sorry for your deep loss, but I know Poppy is still helping people.
~Blessings~
